Story-wise, Skarlet is a creation of Shao Kahn. A warrior created from the blood of his enemies, fused together by sorcery. Skarlet draws power and strength from the blood of her defeated enemies. Skarlet is a blood ninja, and it definitely shows.
Gameplay-wise, Skarlet plays a lot like her purple counterpart, Mileena. With attacks such as teleport kicks, knife throws, and a sliding dash attack, her influences are obvious. She still manages to stand apart from the other characters. Though her moveset is similar to Mileena, she plays much more offensively. Her projectile has a delayable second shot that can be used to change things up on unsuspecting opponents. Her dash move can also be linked into a number of different attacks allowing for some ideal combo opportunities. She is certainly able to hold her own against the rest of Mortal Kombat's warriors.

[spoiler alert]
Skarlet's fatalities are by far some of the more disturbing ones. Earlier when I mentioned that she draws her power from the blood of her foes, that part is definitely given some depth here. In the first of her fatalities, she thrusts her knife into the side of her opponents head and the uses the other to nearly decapitate her foe sending blood shooting out, their head barely still attached. Whle still holding her opponent up with her knife, she bathes in the shower of blood.
Her other fatality is slightly similar. She pulls out her two knives and stabs herself in the stomach. As the blood poors out, the rest of her body pulls an Alex Mack and she transforms into a puddle of the red stuff. She flows beneath her opponent and suddenly giant spikes shoot out and she reappears, positioning her opponent in the air face down above her. She pulls out her knife and slices her opponent across the stomach, showering in the resulting blood spray.
